Enjoying a walk along the Livorno promenade, once you reach the vicinity of the Church of San Jacopo in Acquaviva, just steps away from the Naval Academy and the Mascagni Terrace, take the time to discover a precious corner of art and culture from Livorno: the Giovanni Fattori Civic Museum.

Set in the beautiful 19th-century context of Villa Mimbelli and its lush, romantically inspired park, the museum houses a beautiful collection of works, mainly paintings, by the most important Livorno and Tuscan artists active from the mid-1800s to the 1940s. From Enrico Pollastrini, a romantic artist with an academic style, to the great works of Giovanni Fattori and the other representatives of the Macchiaioli and Post-Macchiaioli movements.

A truly iconic experience that will allow you to fully grasp the soul of Livorno through its art and its past. Discover in the paintings of the artists who loved and lived in the city all the elements that, like light, make it so unique and authentic.

Villa Mimbelli: a world of art to explore

On the ground floor and the first floor, connected by a stunning staircase with ceramic balustrade, you will have the opportunity to access a series of rooms and spacious halls that maintain the 19th-century style unchanged. The red room, the Turkish room, the Moorish room, the mirror room, the black room, the smoking room: all beautiful and different from each other, all decorated with frescoes, furnishings, and perfectly preserved curtains. Here is where you can admire the works of some of the most important artists from Livorno such as Enrico Pollastrini, Guglielmo Micheli, Ulvi Liegi, Oscar Ghiglia, Giovanni Bartolena, and Mario Puccini.

The second floor is mainly dedicated to the great works of Giovanni Fattori and other artists belonging to the Macchiaioli and Divisionists schools active between the 19th and 20th centuries: Cabianca, Lega, Signorini, Boldini, Tommasi, Gordigiani, Corcos, Cappiello, Grubicy de Dragon, Nomellini, Previati, Cecconi, Benvenuti, and others.

Also within the park, the museum complex includes the structure of the Granai di Villa Mimbelli: an exhibition space that hosts temporary exhibitions and art awards such as the Combat Prize, an important annual event for the promotion of emerging artists at a national level.
